Statement
인간은 불확실한 일상의 각기 다른 사건 속에서 다양한 양상의 <투쟁-도피반응(Fight or Flight Response)*>을 보인다. 나는 모든 인간에게 동일하게 적용되나 개인마다 상이한 방식으로 나타나는 생물학적 매커니즘이 어떻게 고유의 형태로 나타나는지 작품을 통해 서사적으로 탐구하고자 한다. ‘사람’이라는 가능성의 영토는 끊임없이 우리를 선택의 기로에 서게 하고, 예측할 수 없는 ‘불확실성’은 본능적 감정과 신체적 반응을 일으킨다. 게임 속 플레이어가 고정된 규칙이나 목표를 넘어 매 순간 선택의 대응을 통해 자신의 서사를 만들어가듯, 나는 삶을 하나의 영화나 게임으로 규정하고 그것에 참여하는 유저로서 세상을 바라보며 예측 불가능한 환경 속 본능과 이성이 교차하는 순간을 그려내고 있다. 나의 작업을 바라볼 관람객에게도 영화나 게임매체를 접하며 가지는 유저의 감정이 투영되기를 기대한다. 작품을 통해 낯섦과 두려움, 설렘과 희열 등 감정의 스펙트럼을 경험하며 삶의 작은 선택 모두가 생존의 시뮬레이션임을 느낄 수 있기를 바란다. 선택이 이끌어내는 결과가 예측 불가능하고, 때로는 돌이킬 수 없는 변화로 다가오더라도 선택을 통해 마주하는 감정들을 우리가 살아가고 있다는 증거로 여기며 그들 스스로가 주인공으로서 삶의 불확실성을 받아들이고 그 속에서 자신만의 이야기를 만들어 가기를 바란다.
Humans exhibit various forms of the Fight or Flight Response, navigating the uncertainties of daily life and its diverse events. I aim to explore, through my work, how this biological mechanism—universal to all yet uniquely expressed by each individual—manifests in distinctive ways within personal narratives. The vast territory of "being human" constantly places us at crossroads of choice, where the unpredictability of uncertainty triggers instinctive emotions and physical reactions. Just as a player in a game creates their own narrative through choices beyond fixed rules and objectives, I perceive life as a film or a game and engage with the world as a participant, capturing moments where instinct and reason intersect in an unpredictable environment. I hope that viewers of my work will experience emotions similar to those felt by players immersed in films or games. Through my art, I want them to explore the spectrum of emotions—strangeness and fear, excitement and exhilaration—and realize that every small choice in life is a simulation of survival. Even when choices lead to unpredictable outcomes or irreversible changes, I hope they embrace the emotions that arise as proof of being alive. Ultimately, I want them to accept life’s uncertainties as the protagonists of their own stories, shaping unique narratives within the unknown.
