최민영(b.1991) 은 신체적 반응으로 부터 오는 인간의 본능적 감정을 탐구하며, 생존 본능인 '투쟁-도피 반응*'을 주제로 작업을 이어가는 작가이다. 최민영은 ‘투쟁-도피 반응’을 포식자와 피식자 간 충돌하는 감정으로 해석하고, 생태계적 관점에서 본능과 이성이 교차하는 장면을 시각화한다. 최근 작업에서는 내면의 빌런과 맞서 싸우며 내적 한계를 돌파하려는 순간을 에어브러쉬로 그려내고 있다. 예컨대 날카롭고 선명거나 혹은 모호하게 분사된 흔적들은 ‘투쟁-도피 반응’을 겪을 때의 긴장감을 시각적으로 구축하려는 의도를 드러낸다. 작가는 작품을 감상하는 이가 자신의 작품을 통해 낯섦과 두려움, 설렘과 희열 등 감정의 스펙트럼을 경험하며 삶의 작은 선택 모두가 생존의 시뮬레이션임을 느낄 수 있기를 바란다. Choi Min-young (b. 1991) is an artist who explores the instinctive emotions of humans arising from physical responses, continuing her work centered on the survival instinct of the "fight-or-flight response." Choi interprets the "fight-or-flight response" as the conflicting emotions between predator and prey, visualizing momㄴents where instinct and reason intersect from an ecological perspective. In her recent works, she uses airbrush techniques to depict moments of battling inner villains and overcoming internal limitations. For example, the sharp, clear, or sometimes ambiguous spray marks reveal her intention to visually construct the tension experienced during the "fight-or-flight response." The artist hopes that viewers of her work will experience a spectrum of emotions such as unfamiliarity, fear, excitement, and exhilaration, and come to feel that every small decision in life is a simulation of survival. (*Fight-or-flight response: A physiological state of arousal that automatically occurs in response to an imminent threat.)
